Taffeta polonaise trimmed with indienne borders, spotted gauze therèse over a round cap belted with a head-band knotted negligently. (1779)

GRAND NÉGLIGÉ.  The caption should be thus written: Pretty Polonaise Gown, of plain taffeta, trimmed with painted taffeta, covered with a black Mantelet with flared points.  Filet bouffante, knotted en cravat.  Gauze thérese, veiling a round cap, covered and belted with a boiteux ribbon, which is to say, half of one color, half of another, and serving as a head-band: a fashionable curl falling on two sides.
